Why I'm here Tuesday
It's been 10 years since I've graduated high school, and about 9 years 6 months since I've felt like I've been in any sort of shape. Throughout my younger years I've always loved to swim (maybe not during two a day practices) and to compete. Swimming was something I enjoyed but never really took seriously until high school. It was at this level where I really took an interest in swimming competitively. Over that four year span I was able to accomplish quite a bit at both the district and state level. My senior year losing only three times in the 100 breast, once to future Olympian Brendan Hansen in a duel meet, at the district meet where I place second, and the state meet where I placed 6th. After graduating I went to the University of Delaware were I planned to continue swimming until shoulder and ankle injuries finally forced me to give it up. Since then I've slowly felt myself slipping further and further out of shape.

That brings me to why I've decided to create this blog. The past couple years I've had a growing desire to get back into the pool and compete again. Masters is an organization which organizes swim meets (among other things like practices, etc) for adults 18+, but before joining I want to get into what I consider to be good shape. Also, I have really wanted to compete in triathlons so my training for USMS would overlap with this goal nicely.

I've decided that rather than continuing with my current regiment of swimming whenever I'm feeling like a complete slob to take a more structured approach. I intend to use this blog to track my training and help keep me motivated. I stole the idea from Jeff Palm's Swim Blog that I found while looking for sample practices. After seeing his blog and what a great job he does of tracking his practices and progression I thought I'd give it a shot as well.

I'm not entirely sure how I plan on using this blog yet. Initially I'm sure the majority of my training will be in the water and I'll use it to keep track of sets and yards from each time I'm in the pool. I have to find more information on training for triathlons, once I have a better idea of how to train I'll make changes if any are necessary. What I also might try to do is plan out practices or at least set goals for the ammount of yards I want to swim at the beginning of each week. Eventually I'll start tracking miles ran/biked when I get arround to incorporating them into my workout cycle.

Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.
